Meech Equipment — Hyperion, CyClean, JetStream & More
Meech International is one of the world's leading manufacturers of static control, web cleaning, and air technology equipment. Here is what each major product range does and how it works.
What is Meech International and why is it a leading manufacturer?
Meech International is a UK-based manufacturer of industrial static control, web cleaning, and air technology equipment, founded in 1907. They are recognised as one of the global leaders in electrostatic solutions, with products installed in over 80 countries. What distinguishes Meech is their engineering-led approach: products like the Hyperion range use patented pulsed DC technology with 24 V low-voltage electrodes and ion current monitoring — features that no other manufacturer offers as standard. Meech is also the only static control company that designs web cleaning systems using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation, which is how the CyClean achieves its industry-leading cleaning performance. In Slovenia and Croatia, Animat is the authorised Meech distributor, providing consultation, sales, installation, and ongoing support.
What is Hyperion and what makes it different from other ionizers?
Hyperion is Meech's flagship range of pulsed DC ionizing bars — the most advanced static eliminators available. What makes Hyperion different: 1) 24 V electrodes — unlike conventional ionizers that run at 5-7 kV, Hyperion uses safe, low-voltage 24 V DC electrode pins. This means less pin erosion, longer maintenance intervals, and safer operation. 2) Pulsed DC technology — delivers ions over 300-600 mm range (vs 25-75 mm for AC). 3) Ion current monitoring — each bar reports its actual ion output to the SmartControl Touch controller. If performance drops, you know immediately. 4) IPS (Intelligent Power Supply) — the power supply is integrated into the bar, eliminating separate HV cables. The Hyperion range includes models for different applications: 971IPS for long range, 924IPS for general purpose, 945IPS for mid-range, and 314IPS for hygienic environments.
How does the SmartControl Touch system work?
SmartControl Touch is Meech's intelligent controller that monitors and manages multiple Hyperion ionizing bars from a single touchscreen interface. It measures the ion current — the actual flow of ions reaching the target surface — from each connected bar. This is fundamentally different from simply checking if the bar is powered on: ion current monitoring verifies that the bar is actually doing its job. The controller displays real-time status, alerts operators when cleaning is needed (based on declining ion current), and logs performance data for quality audits. Up to 8 bars can be connected to a single SmartControl Touch unit. This capability is critical for industries that require documented proof of ionizer performance (automotive, pharmaceutical, electronics).
What is the CyClean non-contact web cleaner?
CyClean is Meech's non-contact web cleaning system that removes sub-micron contamination from moving webs without touching the material surface. It uses a patented CFD-optimised airflow design: a precisely shaped air stream disrupts the boundary layer of air traveling with the web, lifts particles from the surface, and captures them in an integral vacuum extraction system. CyClean is available in several configurations: the standard CyClean for free-span webs with adequate tension, and the CyClean-R for webs positioned around rollers or low-tension applications where the standard CyClean would be less effective. CyClean-R comes in narrow (100-350 mm), mid (350-600 mm), and wide variants, while the standard CyClean covers wider webs for packaging and printing lines. It is the preferred cleaning system for sensitive substrates — coated films, printed surfaces, optical-grade materials — where contact cleaning would cause damage.
How does the VacClean contact web cleaner work?
VacClean is Meech's contact web cleaning system that combines three technologies in one unit: ionization to neutralize static charge (releasing particle adhesion), elastomer contact rollers to physically pick up particles from the web surface, and vacuum extraction to remove captured particles from the rollers. The process: the web passes over ionizing bars that neutralize static, then contacts the elastomer rollers that attract and lift particles, then vacuum extracts the particles from the roller surface. VacClean provides deeper cleaning than non-contact systems and is used for robust substrates like cardboard, thick films, metal foils, and paper webs where contact with the roller is acceptable.
What is the JetStream ionising air knife?
JetStream is Meech's air knife system that delivers a uniform curtain of high-velocity air across the full width of a product or web. It is available in two versions: ionising JetStream — combines the air curtain with built-in ionization to simultaneously blow off particles and neutralize static charge, and non-ionising JetStream — delivers air only, for applications where static is not the primary concern. JetStream is used for surface cleaning of 3D products (removing particles, moisture, or debris), cooling hot products after processing, and drying surfaces after washing. The air knife design uses Coandă effect aerodynamics to amplify the compressed air supply, reducing air consumption by up to 90% compared to open nozzles.
What is the IonRinse container rinsing system?
IonRinse is Meech's waterless container rinsing system that cleans the inside of bottles, jars, cans, and other containers using ionized air. The system inverts the container, fires a burst of ionized compressed air inside, and extracts the displaced particles through vacuum. This eliminates the need for water rinsing, which requires drying time, generates wastewater, and can leave residual moisture. IonRinse is widely used in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics packaging lines. It is particularly valuable for PET bottles and plastic containers that hold electrostatic charge — the ionization neutralizes the charge so particles release, rather than being held in place by static attraction.
What is the IonWash 3D component cleaning system?
IonWash is Meech's automated system for cleaning complex 3D components using 16 ionizing nozzles arranged around a cleaning chamber. Components are placed in the chamber, and the nozzles deliver ionized air from multiple angles simultaneously, neutralizing static charge and blowing loose particles into vacuum extraction. IonWash was designed specifically for automotive, electronics, and medical device manufacturing where complex-shaped components (housings, brackets, connectors) need to be cleaned before assembly, coating, or packaging. The 16-nozzle design ensures that even recessed areas and undercuts are reached — a significant advantage over single-direction air blowing.
What is the difference between Hyperion 971 and Hyperion 929?
The Hyperion 971IPS is a long-range pulsed DC ionizing bar designed for applications where the bar must be mounted 200-600 mm from the target surface — common on wide-web presses, extrusion lines, and converting equipment where space near the web is limited. The Hyperion 929 is a compact pulsed DC bar optimised for short-range applications at 50-150 mm, commonly used in tight spaces where a full-size bar cannot fit. Both use pulsed DC technology and are compatible with SmartControl Touch monitoring. For general-purpose static elimination at 100-300 mm, the Hyperion 924IPS is the standard choice. Choose 971IPS when distance is the priority; choose 929 for confined spaces; choose 924IPS for the widest range of typical installations.
Does Meech equipment work with existing production lines?
Yes — Meech equipment is designed as retrofit solutions that integrate into existing production lines without structural modifications. Ionizing bars mount on standard brackets that clamp to machine frames, conveyor rails, or dedicated stands. Web cleaning systems require a web path diversion of 100-200 mm (depending on the model) and connection to a vacuum source. JetStream air knives need a compressed air supply (6-7 bar) and optional vacuum extraction. All electrical connections are standard industrial (24 V DC for Hyperion, 230 V AC for power units). Animat's factory-trained specialist surveys your line, recommends mounting positions, and installs the equipment — typically within a single production shift to minimize downtime.
How do air amplifiers reduce compressed air consumption?
Meech air amplifiers use the Coandă effect to entrain ambient air, amplifying the volume of airflow up to 25:1 relative to the compressed air input. A small volume of compressed air passes through a precisely engineered annular gap, creating a high-velocity jet that adheres to the contoured surface and draws in surrounding ambient air. The result: a large volume of high-velocity air from a small compressed air input. This reduces compressed air consumption by 60-80% compared to open tubes or nozzles delivering the same airflow volume. Air amplifiers are used for cooling, drying, blow-off, ventilation, and conveying applications where compressed air cost is a concern.
What is the Static Locator and how is it used for measurements?
The Meech 983v2 Static Locator is a handheld electrostatic fieldmeter that measures the polarity and magnitude of electrostatic charge on any surface. It displays readings in kilovolts (kV) on an LCD screen, with a measurement range of ±200 kV at a standard distance of 100 mm. The Static Locator is used for static audits — systematic measurements along a production line to identify where charge is generated, where it accumulates, and where ionization is needed. Animat's accredited field technician uses this instrument during free on-site measurements to map your static profile and recommend the optimal ionization solution. The companion instrument, the 984v2 Ion Sensor, measures ionizer performance by quantifying ion current and balance at the target surface.
What is the IonCharge static generator and what is it used for?
The IonCharge range is Meech's line of static generators designed for applications where controlled electrostatic charge is needed — the opposite of static elimination. Two models are available: the IonCharge30 (IC30) with 30 kV output for standard applications, and the IonCharge50 (IC50) with 50 kV output for demanding applications requiring higher charge. Both feature touchscreen interfaces, adjustable voltage and current control, and can operate in constant voltage or constant current modes. Key applications: static pinning for laminating, bag making, and film production; In-Mould Labelling (IML) for precise label placement in injection moulds; perforation and hole detection in plastic bag manufacturing (the IC30 detects sparks from a high-voltage electrode to identify holes). Both generators support remote PLC control via the Meech2PLC module, which connects to EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus DPV1, EtherCAT, and Modbus TCP protocols. The compact 994CG generator is a specialised IML variant with four 25 kV outlets and 21-30 V DC power supply.
What is the Meech Cabinet Cooler and how does it work?
The Meech Cabinet Cooler uses compressed air and the vortex tube principle to provide reliable cooling for industrial control cabinets, electrical enclosures, and panels — without electricity, refrigerants, or moving parts. Compressed air enters a vortex generator inside the unit, splitting into hot and cold air streams. The cold air is directed into the cabinet while hot air exhausts through the unit's base. The cooling range spans 650 to 2,400 BTU/hr (190-703 W) for a single unit, selectable by swapping one of the four included generators (yellow 10 cfm, red 15 cfm, blue 25 cfm, brown 35 cfm). Cabinet Coolers are available in 303 and 316 stainless steel (316 for corrosive environments), with optional thermostat and solenoid for automated temperature regulation. The EX-Cabinet Cooler is ATEX/IECEx certified for Zone 1 (Category 2, T4) explosive atmospheres and carries IP66 protection rating. Noise is just 73 dBA. Optimal operation requires 60-100 PSI (4.1-6.8 bar) of compressed air, with factory setting at 5.5 bar.
What is the Meech Vortex Tube?
The Meech Vortex Tube is a compact cooling device that produces cold air from a standard compressed air supply — with no electricity, no refrigerants, and no moving parts. When compressed air enters the tube tangentially, it creates a high-speed spinning vortex that separates into two streams: cold air exiting one end (up to 50°C below inlet temperature) and hot air exiting the other. The cold fraction (ratio of cold to hot air) is adjustable via a control knob, with the factory setting at 70% cold / 30% hot. All Meech Vortex Tubes are constructed from stainless steel for durability and hygiene. Two sizes are available — small (175 × 35 mm) and medium (212 × 45 mm) — with ten models offering air consumption from 8 to 35 cfm. Applications include cooling electronic controls, machining operations, environmental testing chambers, and any situation requiring precise, reliable spot cooling without electrical components.
What is the Meech Coldstream Air Gun?
The Meech Coldstream Air Gun is a handheld or fixed-mount spot cooling tool that uses the vortex tube principle to deliver precisely directed cold air to a target area. It is essentially a vortex tube enclosed within hot and cold end silencers, with knuckle trunking that allows the cold air stream to be positioned exactly where needed. Five models are available: adjustable single-outlet (A60015A), adjustable dual-outlet (A60015AY), standard single-outlet (A60015), standard dual-outlet (A60015Y), and small single-outlet (A60008). Each gun ships with four high-fraction generators (yellow, red, blue, brown) for different cooling capacities from 190 W to 703 W. The adjustable models feature a control valve for fine-tuning the cold fraction. Cold air output reaches up to 50°C below inlet temperature with stability of ±0.6°C. At 5.5 bar with the red generator, noise is 73 dBA. Applications include ultrasonic weld cooling, grinding operations, component cooling, and any spot where targeted cold air eliminates a thermal bottleneck.
